for everyone

A sun dog or sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, for "beside the sun") is a common bright circular spot on a solar halo. It is an atmospheric optical phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection or refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. Often, two sun dogs can be seen (one on each side of the sun) simultaneously.

THE STORY BEHIND THESE SHOTS:
May 3, 2008 11am, Quirino Grandstand: We were about to go to harbor square when I saw Paul staring at the sky and looking at the strange halo around the sun. He wanted to have a good shot of it with the sun having its flare. I also wanted to shoot the sun after seeing it. Paul, Ohsie and I started shooting that very amazing view. Even at the harbor square, we didn't stop until we got a good shot of the sundog. Thanks to the keen eyes of Paul Quiambao, we were able to see such phenomenal event. We were very lucky to have seen and photographed it. What a day!
